November is in full swing, with Thanksgiving coming this week. How did that happen? The fall is flying by, but I have some favorite shops to share in the spirit of Thanksgiving and small business Saturday weekend coming up. Once the turkey (and tofurkey!) is consumed, consider some of these incredible people (all of whom I know personally) as you make your shopping plans this weekend.
SMALL BUSINESS / CUSTOM NOTEBOOKS: May Designs notebooks: I was lucky enough to meet Mica May and learn her story at the Gather Workshop in 2015. I was riveted by every word. I've used May Designs' personalized notebooks for 4+ years now, and they are one of my favorite gifts to give. The quality is excellent, and it's so fun to choose patterns, colors, and monograms for each notebook. They are offering a Black Friday special that allows you to save 40% on notebooks, and they offer a host of other products (stationery items, monogram tassels, etc.).
SMALL BUSINESS / HOME GOODS: Freckled Hen Farmhouse: Natalie Freeman and her husband are the owners of Fayetteville, AR-based Freckled Hen. I met Natalie before Freckled Hen was open, and was a longtime follower of her charming blog about her life on her adorable homestead. She's every bit as kind and genuine as she appears to be online. She has a storefront in Fayetteville (the cutest little town ever!) but also offers an online shop where you can find her impeccably curated goodies.
SMALL BUSINESS / PAPER STORE IN TULSA: Merriment Tulsa: If you are in or near Tulsa and you've never been to Merriment, you're missing out! I am lucky enough to share a space with Merriment--the paper store is in the front, and my studio space a hidden lair in the back. :) While I'm open by appointment only, Merritt has regular hours Tuesday-Saturday and carries a delightful collection of stationery and gift items. Merritt's cheerful spirit can't be beat! Come visit at our Peppermint Bash on Sunday 12/3 from 1-5. We'll have a cocoa bar and free prizes for the first 10 folks.
SMALL BUSINESS / CITY PRINTS Happy Tines illustrated city prints: I was lucky to meet Caitlin of Happy Tines at the Creative at Heart Conference in Raleigh, NC earlier this year. She is an absolute gem and creates the most precious illustrated city prints. These make a lovely keepsake gift. I adore her!
SMALL BUSINESS / PET PORTRAITS Kristi Holland came to one of my first workshops ever, and since then, has attended several more and opened her own watercolor illustration shop! She has such a big heart and does amazing pet portraits that make a fantastic gift for pet lovers.
SMALL BUSINESS / CUSTOM FAMILY ILLUSTRATIONS: Brittany Viklund has been a longtime partner in crime; we started teaching workshops together three years ago after working on the same small team in our time at Teach for America. She makes delightful custom couple/family portaits that are perfect for gifts. We were lucky enough to get one that was displayed on our wedding day!
